Whitman Council on Aging Reappoints Director, Reorganizes Board After Summer Break

WHITMAN — September 10, 2025 — Whitman's Council on Aging reappointed its director and reorganized its board at the September 10 meeting, the panel's first gathering since June. Director Mary was reappointed for a three-year term running July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028, and the board retained Denise as chairperson and named Tom vice chair. Mary's summer report covered a full slate of programming including fraud detection, AI literacy, a Paul Revere historical presentation marking the 250th anniversary of his midnight ride, and a luau pig roast that drew a standing-room crowd. On the community services side, the director flagged that federally backed farmers market coupons were cut from $50 to $25 per recipient this year and distributed by first-come, first-served for the first time, a change she attributed to broader federal funding reductions. Fuel assistance recertification letters have begun going out to residents, with funding levels not expected to be confirmed until October.
