Council on Aging · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Whitman's Council on Aging voted to recommend Trish Gleason to fill a board seat vacated by former member Piper's health-related resignation. New board member Joseph Scalata attended his first meeting and flagged that the center's buses needed updated inspection stickers. Board member Pauline reported the state intends to increase fuel-assistance funding this winter even as federal contributions remain uncertain after cuts, saying "I don't know how people are going to get through the winter if it's really, really cold" and noting income limits are higher than many residents assume.
Volunteer tax preparer Joe Benson is expected to begin seasonal filing help in late January or early February. The board also set its next meeting for November 4 and said its December session will be replaced by a December 9 Christmas luncheon at Town Hall.
