Health Board Preps Kratom Ban Enforcement
Whitman's Board of Health moved to enforce a new statewide kratom ban this week.
Board of Health · Meeting of August 24, 2026
Whitman's Board of Health moved to enforce a new statewide kratom ban this week. Health Agent Dan Kelly told the two-member quorum present, Jamie Rhynd and Danielle Clancy, that Governor Maura Healey's administration reclassified kratom as a Schedule I controlled substance, making it "illegal in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts." Kelly said he has coordinated with the Whitman Police Department for backup if needed but does not expect to require it. The board also set a household hazardous waste collection day for September 12, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Whitman DPW, and flagged a continuing rise in tick-borne illness in its public health nurse's report.
All four routine items, including minutes and licenses, passed 2-0 in a meeting that lasted four minutes.
