Whitman Board of Health Reorganizes, Eyes Pay Hike for After-Hours Assistant Inspector

WHITMAN — May 18, 2026 — Whitman Board of Health reorganizes for 2026-2027 and flags pay review for assistant inspector. The board elected Danielle Clancy as chair, Jamie Rotten as vice chair, and Dawn Barley as clerk at its May 18 meeting, each on 2-0 votes with the respective nominee abstaining. Health Inspector Dan Kelly raised a compensation concern for Assistant Health Inspector Barbara White, who was called out once in the past year — at 11 p.m. in winter to a fire in East Bridgewater — while Kelly was unavailable. "I don't think she's getting paid not very well to be going out in the middle of the night in the winter," Kelly said, adding that budget funds exist to cover an increase. Clancy confirmed the board can raise White's rate without seeking approval from other town bodies. Kelly will circulate documentation on current and proposed pay rates before the next meeting, now scheduled for June 8.
