Board of Selectmen · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Whitman selectmen leaned toward level annual payments for the town's share of the $162 million South Shore Tech building and flagged a Hanover permit-fee dispute that could cost up to $2 million. Town Administrator Sabrina Chilcott said Whitman "will lose the equivalent of potentially two million dollars in staff and services" if the January 30, 2027 debt exclusion fails, with Whitman's share running $26 million to $34 million. Separately, Conservation Commission presenter Ed Winnett asked the board to buy a 12.5-acre Jacob Lane parcel for $218,000, calling it "a unique opportunity for the town." Selectman Dawn Byers pressed for a breakdown of the $2 million in free cash used to balance the fiscal 2026 budget, which closed with $48.1 million in revenue and an $811,841 unexpended balance.
Old Colony Planning Council's Jason DeRogier previewed a draft Housing Production Plan showing Whitman 389 units short of the state's 10 percent affordable-housing benchmark.
