Select Board Convenes Town's Committee Chairs

Select Board · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Whitman Select Board gathers two dozen committee chairs to meet new town administrator and air grievances. Chair Paul borrowed the format from Hingham to introduce Town Administrator Sabrina Chilcott and Assistant Town Administrator Matt Dyer, who heard complaints ranging from broken town email access to missing building swipe cards. Library Trustees chair Mrs.

McEwen said the town funds only 45 percent of the library's required budget, risking loss of state aid within three years. Public Works Commissioners chair Kevin Cleary outlined a $15 million to $17 million South Avenue reconstruction funded mainly by MassDOT. Finance Committee Chair Mike Warner said the town has run "zero growth" budgets for seven or eight years despite real cost increases: "I've had department heads laugh when we ask, can you actually pay that for gas and electricity." The Hobart Dam Replacement Committee is weighing repair, replacement or removal of the roughly 330-year-old dam, last estimated at $800,000 to $1.5 million to repair.
