Whitman Aid Panel Approves Revised Application, Eyes Independent Fundraising Nonprofit

WHITMAN — November 19, 2025 — Whitman's Aid to the Elderly and Disabled Taxation Committee approved a revised fiscal year 2027 application and heard that state regulators have blocked online and mail-in donation options. The committee, which had a balance of $3,365.87 as of the November 19 meeting, voted unanimously to accept application revisions placing the Council on Aging first in the submission process and removing member names from the form. Treasurer Debbie O'Brien, newly appointed to the committee to replace Sharon LaPiccolo, reported that the state Department of Revenue "strongly does not recommend" allowing mailed checks or online payments, citing unresolved tax implications. Chair John Galvin said he is moving forward with filing paperwork to create an independent "Friends of the Elderly" nonprofit — which could hold fundraising events like basket raffles and wine tastings — and has recruited community fundraiser Michelle Lamatina as a prospective director. A committee reorganization vote was tabled until December 3, when all five members are expected to be present.
