Whitman Aid to Elderly Committee Elects New Chair, Loses Founding Member

WHITMAN — December 3, 2025 — Whitman's Aid to the Elderly and Disabled Taxation Committee reorganized leadership and lost its founding member at its December 3 meeting. R. John Galvin, who had served as both president and clerk, resigned effective immediately to focus on building a companion nonprofit, the Friends of the Whitman Aid to the Elderly and Disabled, which he said plans to file with the Secretary of State in January 2026 with four current members and a treasurer in accountant Ken Layla. The committee unanimously elected Ryan Russell as chair, with Layla retained as vice chair on a four-to-zero vote with Layla abstaining. The panel's donation account stood at $3,390.87 as of November 30. An at-large seat left vacant by Galvin's departure must be filled by the Select Board; one candidate referred by the Council on Aging declined the role due to time constraints. The committee's next meeting is set for January 21 at 10:30 a.m.
