Whitman Assessors Approve $1.9 Million Motor Vehicle Excise Commitment for 2026

WHITMAN — February 3, 2026 — Whitman Board of Assessors approves more than $1.9 million in motor vehicle excise commitments. The board, comprising Chair Heidi Hosmer, Christine McPherson, and Brittany Cavallo, voted unanimously at its February 3 meeting to approve a 2026 motor vehicle excise commitment of $1,904,091.06 and a 2025 commitment covering seven accounts totaling $10,697.23; bills are set to be mailed Friday. The board also approved fiscal year 2026 property tax exemptions under Clause 22D totaling $7,767.14 and one Clause 22 veteran exemption for $400, while denying Clause 41C and Clause 17D applications for two residents who exceeded income and asset limits. Chief Assessor Deb noted 18 real estate abatement applications are pending, including several large ones, and that Appellate Tax Board cases must be compiled for the town auditor.
