Whitman Recreation Commission Opens Summer Registration, Plans Spring Egg Hunt

WHITMAN — February 12, 2026 — Whitman Recreation Commission welcomes new member and opens summer program registration ahead of town meeting budget vote. The commission introduced Michael Lamarique, a network administrator and five-year Whitman resident, as a prospective voting member — filling a roster that had at times been reduced to two members, barely enough for a legal meeting. Recreation Director reported that online registration through Unipay is now live for the summer park program at $160 per child per week and the summer pool program, with most staff returning. The commission is seeking $10,000 from the town in the FY27 budget for pool operations — covering chemicals, opening, closing, and seasonal maintenance — and acknowledged that without it, free pool access on the Fourth of July cannot be guaranteed. A spring egg hunt is set for March 28 at Town Hall, with an $850 inflatable maze, 3,000 reused plastic eggs, the Easter Bunny, and National Honor Society volunteers, following Select Board approval of the venue. The commission's next meeting is March 12 at 6 p.m.
