Whitman Board of Assessors approves over $8,000 in tax abatements and exemptions
WHITMAN — March 31, 2026 — Whitman Board of Assessors clears nine abatement and exemption votes in under ten minutes. Meeting on March 31, the board approved three motor vehicle excise tax abatements totaling $4,130 across tax years 2023, 2025, and 2026, with the 2026 abatement alone reaching $3,944.01. Five categories of real estate exemptions for FY2026 were also approved, including Clause 17, Clause 41, Clause 22E, Clause 22, and Community Preservation Act exemptions, combining for a total of $3,963.20. Two contested items — an excise abatement denial and a revaluation review denial — were pulled from the public agenda after members confirmed they require deliberation under executive session provisions of Massachusetts General Law. The board scheduled its next meeting for April 7, 2026, with the executive session items to appear on a posted agenda due by April 1.
