Whitman Building Committee Holds Off on DPW Facility Acceptance Over Punch List Gaps
WHITMAN — August 11, 2025 — Whitman Building Committee delays signing off on DPW facility substantial completion over unresolved punch list and insurance deadline. The committee, meeting August 11, voted unanimously to approve $545,230.93 in project invoices — led by a $486,772.14 construction requisition from general contractor Paige — while pressing owner's project manager Scott to bring project architect Greg to the site this week to finalize a punch list the builder's risk carrier requires before converting coverage; that policy expires August 30. Members flagged fire-separation deficiencies, an improperly placed emergency shower, and an HVAC system town staff cannot yet control. Committee member Dan argued on the record that Paige and excavation subcontractor Pompeo should have shared the roughly $250,000 tank-remediation cost, saying "PAGE should have taken some responsibility," though the environmental consultant's written finding — that the mishandled tank did not materially increase cleanup costs — effectively closed the door on that claim. The overall project budget of $22,239,000 is tracking under budget, with approximately $715,000 remaining in contingency and a revised substantial completion target of September 30.
