WHITMAN — June 16, 2026 — Whitman Conservation Commission clears six-week middle school culvert replacement for July start while restarting its wetlands bylaw overhaul from scratch. At its June 16 meeting, the commission accepted three design revisions to the DEP file 3400486 culvert project — removing originally proposed riprap from both sides, restoring the northern inlet to its original location, and confirming a full-stream bypass with redundant pumps — and directed the project team to budget for smaller-diameter four-to-six inch riprap as a scouring contingency. Members also unanimously approved $489 in Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions dues drawn from Notice of Intent funds after the general expense account ran short. A group of Opera's Way residents received an extended briefing on the state DEP superseding-determination process now underway for a disputed wetlands boundary approved April 7; commission staff said the process could extend into August or September before the line is finalized.
