Whitman Housing Authority Certifies Fiscal Year 2025 Financials, Flags $30,000 Write-Off

WHITMAN — August 25, 2025 — Whitman Housing Authority certifies fiscal year 2025 records amid $30,000 tenant debt write-off. The board voted unanimously at its August 25 meeting to certify year-end operating statements, tenant accounts receivable, and a top-five compensation form, all required before an anticipated state performance management review expected in September. Executive Director Eileen reported that income ran 2.2 percent above projections and administrative expenses came in 10.1 percent under budget, but a write-off of just over $30,000 in uncollectable tenant accounts — driving $25,363 in collection losses — pushed general expenses 29.9 percent over budget and reduced net income by $14,756. "What's in our control, we did well. What isn't, that's what hurt us," the director said. The board also accepted two public housing notices covering software transitions for annual plan and mandatory data reporting systems, effective in fiscal year 2026, and received a preliminary briefing on a federally funded broadband installation program that, if approved, would add internet hookups to all housing authority units at no cost to the authority.
