Whitman Open Space Plan Heads to Select Board for October 28 Endorsement

WHITMAN — September 24, 2025 — Whitman's Open Space and Recreation Plan Steering Committee wrapped up roughly a year of work at its September 24 meeting, setting a final timeline for the 151-page draft plan's submission to the state. Planner Jason DeRoger of the Old Colony Planning Council said the draft would go out for two weeks of public comment following an October 1 review session with multiple town boards and commissions, with all revisions targeted for completion before an October 28 Select Board meeting at which the board will be asked to provide a formal letter of support. DeRoger said the plan is on track for state submission by the end of October, ahead of a contractual year-end deadline. The committee also flagged a cluster of draft corrections — including a section that misidentified Whitman as Shrewsbury and a zoning map last formally updated on May 1, 1973 — and discussed whether to formalize a quarterly joint implementation committee to keep the plan's 10-year action items on track after submission.
