Whitman Select Board Approves Red Cross Blood Drives, Adjourns to Town Meeting

WHITMAN — May 4, 2026 — Whitman Select Board wraps up brief agenda before adjourning to Annual Town Meeting. The board unanimously approved the American Red Cross's use of Town Hall Auditorium for blood drives on June 5, August 14, and November 13, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in what members described as an ongoing arrangement that has been working well. A school assessment update dominated what little deliberation occurred: a board member reported that the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District School Committee had voted earlier that evening to reduce Whitman's non-mandated busing assessment from $235,440 to approximately $202,000, a correction of roughly $33,000 tied to a prior miscalculation using outdated pupil enrollment data. The district's operating assessment was not reduced, prompting one board member to respond simply, "Not enough." The board took no vote on the assessment and adjourned directly to town meeting.
