Whitman Select Board Ratifies Three-Year AFSCME Local 494 Contract

WHITMAN — January 12, 2026 — Whitman Select Board ratifies three-year AFSCME Local 494 contract and clears full agenda in three minutes. The board unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with AFSCME Local 494 covering July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028, with no financial terms stated publicly during the session. Acting on requests from Town Clerk Don Varley and Building Commissioner Jim Ewell, the board also appointed election checkers for the evening's special town meeting and named Robert Collins as assistant inspector of buildings through June 30, 2026. The board set its next two meetings for January 27 and February 17 before adjourning immediately to the special town meeting — a session one member noted may have set a speed record.
