Whitman Select Board Schedules June 11 Special Town Meeting After Override Fails

WHITMAN — May 20, 2025 — Whitman Select Board schedules June 11 special town meeting to rework budget after override defeat. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to hold the special session at 6 p.m., with the warrant limited to a revised Article 2 operating budget and potentially two union contract articles for the police and fire unions. Town Administrator Mary Beth Carter warned that some staff reductions appear unavoidable and said she expects a certified school budget number from the district by June 4 — one week before the meeting. The board also reorganized, reelecting Carl Kowalski as chairman, Dan Salvucci as vice chair, and Justin Evans as clerk, and approved a new common victualler license for Gurudine Express Incorporated at 733 Bedford Street. Citizens seeking to add articles to the special town meeting warrant face a 100-signature threshold and a deadline of approximately May 28.
