Whitman Select Board Sets Aside $150,000 in Ambulance Revenue for Public Safety

WHITMAN — June 11, 2025 — Whitman Select Board reserves $150,000 in ambulance revenue for public safety staffing after override defeat. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to set aside $150,000 from the town's projected $1.4 million ambulance revenue account for fiscal year 2026 to help cover unfilled shifts in fire and police departments following the failed Proposition 2½ override, which left the town absorbing roughly $1 million in budget cuts. The fire chief warned that reduced ambulance staffing could cost the town as much as $700,000 in lost revenue annually, making the reserve a potential self-funding measure. The board also unanimously appointed Jennifer Agenti, a Bridgewater State University graduate currently pursuing an MBA in accounting, as the town's new accountant, and accepted the resignation of Joseph Burke from the Recreation Commission effective June 3.
