Planning Board · Meeting of May 26, 2026

WHITMAN — The Whitman Planning Board voted 4-0 to recommend favorable action on an accessory dwelling unit proposal at 138 South Ave. and separately backed a cemetery storage building during its May 26 reorganizational meeting. Chair Adam Somerville was reelected to lead the four-member board, with Robert Kimball voted into a second officer post and Jeffrey Sargis elected clerk. The board recommended letting the owner demolish a garage and a rear ranch house and build a single structure with a 768-square-foot ADU, with Kimball moving "to recommend favorable action to the zoning board with the understanding that two structures are going to be removed and replaced with one ADU structure." Members also backed a 40-by-30-foot steel storage building at St.

James Cemetery off Harvard Street and approved $400 to publish legal notices for the two hearings. The board approved its May 12 minutes 3-0, with member Heidi Hosmer abstaining.
