Whitman Planning Board recommended against an apartment above a repair garage, citing child safety and fumes.
Planning Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Whitman Planning Board recommended against an apartment above a repair garage, citing child safety and fumes. The board voted 4-0 to oppose a special permit for a second-floor residential unit above the existing repair garage at 333 South Avenue, with member Robert Kimball citing "safety concerns relative to potential children in the garage area and the potential for fumes and noise for the upstairs apartment." The Zoning Board of Appeals will make the final call on the special permit. The same board separately voted 4-0 twice more to recommend approval of accessory dwelling units at 360 School Street and 130 Burton Avenue.
Members also voted 3-0, with one abstention, to accept the September 8 meeting minutes, which documented a resolved tree-buffer dispute near 1st Street.
