Whitman Conservation Commission Lifts Stop Work Order at 159 Auburn Street

WHITMAN — November 4, 2025 — Whitman's Conservation Commission lifted a stop work order and deferred a home-sale compliance question at its November 4 meeting. Chair Leanne McKenzie and two members voted unanimously to end an enforcement action at 159 Auburn Street after confirming that a contractor identified as Marcus had excavated and replaced non-conforming drainage pipe, removed corrugated piping discharging into wetlands, and re-leveled dry wells with additional stone — all verified by the town's building inspector. The commission then declined to act on a certificate of compliance request for 8 Wild Turkey Lane, where inspectors found an above-ground pool and a shed within the 100-foot wetland buffer that do not appear on the 2006 original Notice of Intent plans and for which no permit record has been located. "Our duty is to protect the wetlands," member Joseph said, questioning whether issuing the certificate would be consistent with the commission's enforcement of other buffer-zone violations. The matter was continued to November 18, when absent members Sandy Cortez and Brian LaPierre are expected to return.
