Whitman Aid Fund Committee Sets July 1 Target for First Tax Relief Applications

WHITMAN — March 11, 2026 — Whitman's Women's Aid for the Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund Committee is targeting a July 1 launch for its first-ever property tax relief applications, with an October 1 deadline for residents to apply. Chair Brian Trussell led the March 11 meeting, where guest John Galvin, president of the newly incorporated Friends of the Whitman Elderly and Disabled Incorporated, reported the two entities hold roughly $5,000 combined — $4,085.44 in the municipal fund and $1,500 between the nonprofit's bank account and an ongoing March Madness squares fundraiser. The nonprofit, approved by the Secretary of State on January 30, 2026, has its federal tax ID and is ready to file for 501(c)(3) status but is waiting to pay the $275 fee until the squares fundraiser concludes. Additional fundraisers planned through June include a scratch-ticket raffle, a Whitman Day table, and a trivia night hosted by committee member Ken Layla. The committee will meet next on May 13 to assess total funds raised before making any final determination on awards.
