Whitman Panel Sets Oct. 7 Elder Tax Aid Review
Other Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Whitman's elderly and disabled tax relief committee preps for an October 7 application review with about $12,000 in hand. Chair Ryan Trestle reported the committee's own fund has reached $6,000, while a partner fundraising group, represented by John Galvin, has raised $6,535, for a combined total near $12,500. Vice Chair Ken Layla said the Council on Aging's Mary Holland sent a robocall reminding residents of the October 1 application deadline.
Member Debbie O'Brien raised concerns about taking paper applications home to review; the committee decided they will stay in the meeting room given the sensitive financial information involved. "I think like shake the piggy bank out," Trestle said, arguing against holding funds back from residents who need help now. The committee set November 30 as its deadline to notify all applicants of award decisions.
